BRUSSELS—European Union foreign ministers backed a military operation to the Central African Republic of up to six months to help quell intensifying religious violence in the African nation.
The ministers pledged to move quickly to come to an agreement on the details of the plan, which will see some 500 troops help stabilize the area around the capital of Bangui, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Monday.
