LONDON—The U.K.’s economic growth accelerated in the second quarter as all sectors expanded for the first time in almost three years, official data showed Thursday, raising hopes that a sustained recovery may take hold.
In its preliminary estimate, the Office for National Statistics said gross domestic product grew 0.6% between April and June compared with the first quarter. Economic output was 1.4% higher compared with the second quarter of 2012—the strongest expansion since the first quarter of 2011.
On an annualized basis, GDP grew an estimated 2.4%, the ONS said. Thursday’s data were in line with economists’ forecasts.
