HOMS, Syria—Some were so frail and malnourished they could barely walk. Others had to be carried out on stretchers, and many were in tears, yearning for loved ones they hadn’t seen for nearly two years.
This was the scene on Friday as 83 mostly elderly men and women and children were allowed to leave rebel-held sections of the central city of Homs, besieged by Syrian regime forces for more than 18 months.
