DHAKA, Bangladesh—Bangladesh’s premier celebrated preliminary results in a weekend election boycotted by the opposition that showed her party capturing 77% of the seats in Parliament.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina defended her decision to go ahead with the elections, calling the polls a “victory for democracy” despite low voter turnout and pledging to lead the country to a “pluralistic and prosperous” future.
