U.S.-Japan Clash Strains Pacific-Rim Trade Talks

SINGAPORE—Negotiations over a trade deal among 12 countries around the Pacific Ocean adjourned without an accord amid disagreements between the U.S. and Japan over agriculture and automobiles.
U.S. officials cited “great momentum” in the talks, but were unable to meet their goal of getting an agreement by year’s end. The talks are scheduled to resume in late January.
