QUNU, South Africa—The world has said goodbye to South African icon Nelson Mandela in a star-studded funeral here. But in the home village where he is buried, some worry they will become a forgotten part of the former president’s past.
“We are what we are because of Mandela,” says Vuyokazi Matshiqi, a 34-year-old graduate student who was home in Qunu visiting her mother during the week of mourning for Mr. Mandela.
