Hungarian Court Scraps Planned Limits on Criticism

BUDAPEST—The Hungarian Constitutional Court scrapped Tuesday planned stricter regulations on criticizing public figures, a looming threat that could have curbed free speech.
Hungary’s new Civil Code, taking effect March 15, was to limit the extent to which public figures—including politicians—can be criticized. The court scrapped parts of the bill that would have allowed this restriction.
