BEIJING—As Chinese authorities make final preparations for the trial of Bo Xilai, the former Communist Party highflier, people close to one side of his family say the key witness for the prosecution will be his own wife, Gu Kailai, who was convicted of murdering a British businessman last year.
The prospect of Ms. Gu providing testimony against her own husband heightens the potential for drama surrounding what was already shaping up to be China’s most politically charged trial since the 1980 proceedings against Jiang Qing, the wife of Chairman Mao Zedong.
