Bank of France Official Urges Faster Action on Economy

Bank of France Governor Christian Noyer said France needs to step up the pace of structural changes, including more loosening of its rigid labor market—something that could prove difficult for the highly unpopular government of President François Hollande.
“We can’t simply be complacent with what we’ve done,” Mr. Noyer said in an interview on Tuesday with The Wall Street Journal.
Mr. Noyer pointed to changes already undertaken in Paris to start overhauling the labor market, pensions and health-care management to try to control social-security spending. “But we have to accelerate that,” he said.
